From Ubud to Mt Batur

Will remarked that the Alam Terrace's banana pancakes were "almost better than yours mum" (he knows how to keep me onside). We hit the Ubud markets early to get "morning prices" and everyone haggled for some sarongs with varied success. Will's was of course more expensive as it was "painted on both sides", mine because it was "2.5metres and 100% cotton and so on! After sealing the deal the stall owner then taps the money a few times around the other shop goods and mutters something, presumably as a ritual for prosperity for sales for rest of the day. Will and Hamish also bought some small surfboard souvenirs. 

We then headed to Mt Batur with a lunch stop overlooking the Ricefields.

Our driver delivered us to Batur mountain view, our hotel for the night and there was a moment of panic when the only visible building was an empty concrete shell! Fortunately after walking through this and down some stairs we saw the older part of the hotel set amongst a pretty, lush garden. The boys wanted to all sleep together in the second floor "sweet room" (as the key described it) complete with four poster bed and interesting bathroom set up. The boys thought it was hilarious that from the bed you could view the person on the toilet via a mirror! The adults were more concerned about the door just outside their bedroom that led outside with no balcony! Apparently, like many Indonesian buildings it just never quite got finished!

Alternatively you could open the curtains and look through the glass less window between bedroom and bathroom!

The lengths Dave was prepared to go to to get the perfect shot, much to Sera's horror as the wall had quite a drop the other side and Sera had good reason to be dubious about the quality (or lack of) building standards in Indonesia
